What can an E-bike do for you?
Over the past few years much has been discussed to encourage bike use among commuters, from improving bike infrastructure and bike parking in Melbourne. Bike traffic jams, are a potential phenomenon, that we are yet to see especially as the works in the CBD increases and the time of travelling to and from work becomes a nightmare.
Now the Government and local councils are having discussions that have become more engaging and highlighted prospects of shutting down certain streets in the city to accommodate for safe and effective commuting is starting to take momentum. So, what does it mean to commute? Time, distance to travel and equipment is the most relevant questions that we face.
A high number of the commuters live less than 15 km from their work. Currently the maximum distance most commuters are prepared to cycle to their work is 7 to 10 km. As soon as the distance is more than 7.5 km only 15% of the commuters opt for the bike and 70% for the car or use public transport.
When colleagues hear your cycle ride into work takes longer than half an hour, they tend to think you must be very sporty and fit. And indeed, long-distance bike commuters are traditionally the cycling fanatics who you see in all weathers sweating away on a flashy ‘fast’ bike, such as a road bike or even a refurbed alloy mountain bike that has been in the shed for years but still works fine.
As this is not everyone’s cup of tea, this is where the pedal assist e-bike’s comes in. The e-bike is seen as a faster and more comfortable alternative to the regular bike. With the extra pedal power and speed of the e-bike. Is an e-bike cheating you out of getting a work-out? The short answer is NO!.
The easiest way to dispel the myth is basically acknowledging that if you stop pedaling on a Pedal Assist E-Bike the bike will stop as per a normal bicycle. The E-Bike will make the ride easier and ideally force you to exert energy and in turn get a work-out at the same time.
Also, for people that may have a physical condition or suffer from knee pain or muscle soreness could also use this type of bike as part of their rehabilitation program. But also, the E-Bike can be used for a dual purpose.
Currently there has been new bikes bought into the market which encompasses trail riding or Mountain biking and as far as Road E-Bike. To be able to enjoy the landscape that Victoria has to offer can be easily accessed with a robust bike with well designed and drive systems that can allow the novice cyclist to tackle some basic level Mountain bike tracks or enjoy a ride on the Warburton Trail.
This technology is a way to stay out of the car, train or bus but still get to work feeling great but also felling that it you have not over-exerted yourself and most importantly have fun along the way.
